At church sometimes we do combined, out loud readings of different things. At Parkerhill they tend to find old prayers of people of the faith. I have really enjoyed this because many of them I have not heard and I love to learn something new. Plus they are always filled with such truths, heart and honesty. On Sunday we recited the "Prayer of St. Francis." I absolutely love the words of this prayer. I want this prayer to be the prayer of my life and I hope that it can be evident in my life. I have included the prayer below for your reading pleasure. Enjoy!
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen! Amen! Amen! What a wonderful reminder and challenge to me!
ReplyDeleteThose are great words...I'm especially challenged by the last three lines of the first stanza... "grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love." .....
ReplyDeleteWhat was 'decided' with the previous post?
